the police should make regular rounds within Las Colinas in unmarked vehicles. There are so many rockets going off that if they only caught 50% of the perps, they could fun the next election for governor..

Ok Dave…heres the way it is. From 2002 to 2005 the FIRE DEPT. ran an ILLEGAL fireworks task force operation (which I organized and ran) We could only scratch the surface of the illegal fireworks, but we did make an impact. It was extreemly dangerous work. Fire Dept Investigators were armed and usually ran two man teams. When you encounter LARGE block parties with lots of alcohol, RESIDENTS were not afraid to confront and in some case, accost investigators. On several occasions we also had the police dept. assist us. The cost to combat the use of illegal and dangerous fireworks is extreemly high. And which is always the case, you could only have so many investigators available to cover so many areas.
The problem is people in general dont care about the LAW and are not afraid to break them. We submitted many cases where we issued citations and even had several arrests. The Judges would issue a small fine and the offender would go his merry way. I had “regular” offenders that i encountered year after year who said it was worth the fine to entertain their guests. I arrested and confiscated a LARGE amount of fireworks from a gentleman who sold them from his home. We had the BOMB SQUAD respond to remove the fireworks. He spent two nights in jail, and the DA’s Office did a pathetic job of a case. He paid a small fine. So thats it in a nutshell. Needless to say, the FIRE DEPT does not run that task force operation, and illegal fireworks run amuck in the city.

I know that its dangerous and you guys have a hard job on your hands. I am working on the possibility of a complete fireworks ban while at the same time creating a way to still allow non-profits and other groups to fundraise. I will add to that list making people aware of the reason people dont care if they are caught because the penalties are so weak.

I don’t know what the answer to all of these illegal fireworks is, but I do know Fontana was citing citizens with illegal firework in the amount of $10,000 dollars. I don’t know how much the courts will end up fining these criminals once they go to court, but it should be the full amount. Maybe if the courts will stand up and support these fines, these criminals will soon stop. We have to hurt these people where they live…. in their wallets!!

I do not know what it will take to get some up to 750 west Easton where I live Brampton be hind me and in front of me .no body wants to do any thing about the fireworks. every year something end up on fire a tree a house car . this year it may be may house with the way all the grass is dead and every time I trie to water I have I code person on my ass but can not get any body to do any thing about the fireworks going in the air every night.

If they are illegal why sell them on every corner? Also, it’s only illegal on the 4th? Because I’ve heard and seen fireworks all week! I have a child with special needs who is very afraid of fireworks. I plan for the 4th so she will be ok but when anyone is allowed to set them of whenever they want I can’t help her. The city is making boastful claims to “crack down”but have failed to actually do anything about the issue!
