Eisenhower coming off an amazing run in the CIF Southern Section playoffs had one more team to conquer Saturday night. Coming off a CIF Southern Section title win against the Highland Bulldogs the team now had to put that behind them and focus on yet another big game.
On yet another cold night these two CIF champs took the field. It was clear early on that Eisenhower had their hands full with the D8 CIF Champion Kaiser Cats. Kaiser had a beast of a Running Back that accounted for all of Kaiser High School 7 touchdowns Christian Hunter. Eisenhower seemed to struggle to stop the 6’ 190 Senior as he sliced his way through the defense with some well done blocking.
The Eagles had some amazing highlights as Dayveon “Special” Benton blocked and extra point kick. A majority of the scoring and heavy load was on the backs of the teams key go to players Joel Ayala, Jordan Goodloe and Cesar Ayala.
Eisenhower relied on a combination of ground and air assault to push their offense down the field. Kaiser on the other hand used a powerful and effective running game that had Eisenhower scratching their heads.
Even though Eisenhower was down three touch downs early they managed to claw their way back into the game and pull within eight points of the Cats. It looked as though Eisenhower would have just under 2 minutes to try and find the endzone as they stopped Kaiser short of a 1st down but Dayveon Benton was called for a facemask giving Kaiser a new set of downs and sealing Eisenhower’s fate.
Coach Alvin Brown said one of the reasons this game was so hard was because they got away from the game plan that worked so well over the last 13 games, they were looking to Sacramento and the finals rather than going 1-0 each week.
Kaiser Coach Bill Cardosi when asked how he felt after this win he said “exhausted”. Coach Cardosi has a connection to Eisenhower as his father was Ronnie Lotts basketball coach. Coach Cardosi credits the win to “outstanding student athletes and stuck to the game plan and came out victorious”.
Only in Rialto can you have a Head Coach of a popular local football program treated poorly and tossed aside.
Normally when coaches are forced out it has to do with poor performance from an amazing team or issues with parents & players. In Rialto we seem to mess things up in a very special way! Three years into his time at Eisenhower High School Head Coach Al Brown has resigned his position with the Football program in Rialto. This news comes on the heels of the Eisenhower Eagles return to greatness with a Division CIF Title the first one in 20 years and a very close second in the State Semi Finals against a very powerful Fontana Kaiser Cats football team.
Things all changed with the removal of Eisenhower High School Principal Scott Sparks who brought on coach Brown three years ago in an effort to return the football program to its former greatness. Coach Brown worked hard for two years under the support of Principal Scott Sparks to build a program that brought Eisenhower to its former glory but more importantly created amazing student athletes that are pillars in the community. The goal was to grow young student athletes that would continue to make Rialto proud.
Coach Brown not only raised up some amazing student athletes but he brought a CIF championship back to the Ronnie Lott stadium! Being close to Coach Brown and some of his prior players (now playing college football) this season was tough on Coach Brown. It was tough because the CTE (career Technical Education) class Life Management was not offered to Coach brown this year as new Principal Frank Camacho took over for the departing Scott Sparks. So in order to feed his family and remain available to coach Eisenhower’s Varsity team this year Coach Brown was forced to take substitute jobs. Working as a substitute offers no job security or medical benefits, also coach Brown had to be prepared for a different teaching situation each day. This fact alone made his CIF season even more amazing given what the coach was dealing with this season.
One constant face at Eisenhower High Football games was former Principal Scott Sparks. The former leader of Eisenhower High and a childhood friend of new Eisenhower High Principal Frank Camacho was at as many of Eisenhower’s games. Scott Sparks watched what he started blossom into a season and record that Eisenhower Alumni could brag about!
According to Coach Brown he was told that he would have a teaching contract this week solidifying his place with the Football team. When the deadline to offer this contract came and went coach Brown had no choice but to resign. Eisenhower High School staff have not been happy this year talking about how much life at the school has changed in just one year. Many people close to what Coach Brown was going through this school year hoped that the CIF season would be enough to prove to Eisenhower Administration that Coach Brown was a vital piece to the positive school culture at Eisenhower.
This writer is left wondering what is going on at District Office and what does Dr Avila and the School Board think this latest problem will do to moral and the culture at Eisenhower? According to Syeda Jafri the Communications Director from Rialto Unified “the district has not received a formal resignation from coach Brown, so it would be difficult to comment further on this matter”. Since posting this story it has come to light that the team is still waiting for the end of the year banquet. We have heard from sources that the school district is waiting for the CIF rings to come in so that they can be presented at the banquet. The rings can take 6 weeks to be ready.
One thing that we learned about this year was how difficult it is for schools in low income communities to get their rings. Kaiser High in Fontana was gifted a grant at the Inland Valley Classic Football game on January 26th to buy their CIF rings. Eisenhower High Schools rings are being taken care of by District Office.
Most gut wrenching about this move is the $300k video that Westbound Communications did for San Bernardino on how hard Cajon High School in San Bernardino worked to keep an amazing sports program together. People gave up jobs and changed their lives to keep the coach in place and make it impossible for him to want to leave. One thing that Athletic Director Richard Imbriani says in this video is we teach kids life skills and how we don’t quit on people. Well apparently Rialto has a lot to learn from San Bernardino!
Rialto, CA – Victim Rescued in Vacant Building Fire
Rialto Firefighters were dispatched to the 400 block of W. Foothill Blvd. shortly after 10:30 a.m. this morning. The first unit arrived on scene approximately 5 minutes after dispatch to find a vacant building with heavy smoke coming from a side door. The building was formerly Inland Empire Sewing & Vacuum repair shop and had been had been boarded up. One man who didn’t give us his name claimed that he was living inside this building. (see photo below)
Bystanders on scene reported one victim trapped inside of the building. Crews made quick entry to the building to perform an interior search. A female was discovered and a rescue was performed. The patient was in full arrest and brought to paramedics waiting outside of the building. Resuscitation efforts were started immediately and the patient was transported to local ER in critical condition.
The building a business that had been closed for some time now seems to have become a haven for homeless people. Shuttered businesses along the portion of Route 66 that runs through our city have become a common sight sadly.
Fire was knocked down 17 minutes after the first unit arrived on scene. Rialto Fire Arson Unit is on scene to conduct an investigation in coordination with Rialto Police Department. Two arrests have been made.
Crews were able to keep the fire to one alarm with assistance from San Bernardino County Fire and Rialto Fire. No other injuries were reported. Monetary loss from the fire is still being tabulated. The cause of the fire remains under active investigation.
On January 27th at approximately 9:05 a.m., the Rialto Police Department received several 9-1-1 calls from citizens reporting that a young female was struck by a car in the 1500 block of Rialto Ave, in the City of Rialto. After the 14 year old pedestrian was struck, the driver in the suspect vehicle fled the scene without stopping. Rialto police officers arrived on scene within minutes and found the young girl lying in the roadway. The Rialto Fire Department arrived on scene and she was transported to Loma Linda University Hospital with severe head injuries. She is currently receiving emergency medical treatment.
Through an initial investigation which included witness statements, the suspect vehicle was described as a dark colored Jeep last seen eastbound on Rialto Ave, and then northbound Cedar Ave. Rialto Police Officers responded to the area and began their investigation. During an area check for the vehicle, officers were able to locate it in the Walgreens shopping center on the corner of Cedar and Foothill Blvd. Further investigation led officers to conclude the registered owner of the vehicle (Jesus Quinonez-Garcia), was the driver. Officers were quickly able to locate Quinonez-Garcia and place him under arrest.
After obtaining his statement and conducting a DUI investigation, Quinonez-Garcia was found to have a blood alcohol level of almost four times the legal limit. He was later booked into West Valley Detention Center under the charges of Felony DUI and Felony Hit and Run causing injuries.
Rialto may seem like a Left leaning city but when it comes to politics, but all sides come out to make sure that honest hardworking voices are silenced.
After the 2016 election where nine different people all were seeking to occupy one of the two vacant city council seats Ed Scott wanted to make sure that the playing field was leveled when he ran for re-election. A city ordnance was put into place banning regular people from being able to promote their intentions of seeking public office. Everyone forgot about the 2017 ordnance and apparently the City Clerks office and Police department were unaware.
On Tuesday August 7th Mayor ProTem Ed Scott witnessed Ana Gonzalez who was seeking to occupy one of the two seats up for re-election with a campaign booth at the cities annual National Night Out witnesses said he came unglued. Mayor ProTem Ed Scott apparently directed Intern Chief of Police Mark Kling to kick Ana Gonzalez out of the event. What happened next was mind blowing the Chief of Police went over to remove Mrs Gonzalez’s booth from the event!
Now the Police Chief doesn’t respond to calls for service, he doesn’t go out on patrol and most chiefs delegate enforcement duties on other officers in their department. Well in this case when Ed Scott says jump the Chief jumps! Witnesses said that the Chief went over to Mrs. Gonzalez and forced her to remove anything about her campaign or leave. When we reached out to Chief Kling this was his response”
“I understand that the City accepted the application from Ms. Ana Gonzales to have a booth at this year’s National Night Out in August, without recognizing that campaigning activities would be conducted or in violation of the City’s enacted policy from 2017. When the application was accepted PD staff did not notice the description of informational postcards about her political campaign. PD staff did recognize that she would also give candy and school supplies to children visiting her booth. No other council candidate was allowed to distribute campaign literature from a booth at the event, pursuant to Resolution 7084.
Nevertheless, at the event, when Rialto Police Department staff members learned of the activities being conducted at Ms. Gonzales’ booth in violation of the city’s policy, Ms. Gonzales was asked to cease passing out campaign literature, but she was encouraged to continue passing out candy and school supplies to children attending the city sponsored event. At no time was Ms. Gonzales asked to leave the event.“
Nobody stopped Ed Scott or councilman Joe Baca Jr. from addressing the public or having city resources taking photos of them at the event but the Latina Woman running to oppose them she was shutdown?
The question is why such an ordinance even exists and why both city staff and police staff are not aware of a city ordinance?
On Tuesday night at around 9:30 pm a brush fire broke out in North Rialto where Sierra Ave and the 15 freeway meet. With winds gusting to 45 M.P.H the fire quickly took off and became an instant hazard to Las Colinas residents.
By 11:00 pm the fire had grown to 20 acres and when it was all said and done the fire consumed 140 acres. On the news residents could be seen pouring out of the Las Colinas community. Many people worried about people that they knew living in the Las Colinas area. On ABC 7 news shots of palm trees and backyard fences on fire had people on the edge of their seats as they watched this wind driven fire began to try and jump across Riverside Ave.
The quick work of the San Bernardino County Fire Department, a total of 26 engines, seven hand crews, three bulldozers, Rialto Fire and one sheriff’s department patrol helicopter made quick work of this fire and brought it under full containment in a matter of hours.
Rialto Police Department took to the streets of the area making voluntary evacuation notices and securing the area so fire personnel could easily move about and get the work of fire protection done. Alexis and Jessica Alverez residents of the Las Colinas area said that Police were only evacuating residents that lived North of Alder. Alexis Alvarez said “I remember the last fire we had up here my daughter (Jessica) was little and that one was scary so we had no idea what to think with this fire, were glad the Fire Department worked so fast!”
Another resident was in the evacuation area but had nowhere to go with their pets and stuff so they waited it out to see if things would turn for the worse. Steve a person that works in the utility industry pointed out the charred power poles and still smoldering hot spots being addresed by fire personnel at 11:00 am Wednesday. He said “we were lucky they jumped on this so fast”.
Another worry was for two Elementary Schools and one Middle School in the Las Colinas area. School District Spokeswoman Syeda Jafri said that the schools never had to look at shutting down the following day because “Fire Chief Sean Grayson let her know that all the schools were safe and that the fire would not be affecting the schools or community”. Sydea Jafri did say that the schools were on inclement weather schedule due to the strong smell of smoke in the area.
Eisenhower High School has officially broken through and done what many called impossible. In a city of Rialto’s size with three major High Schools all competing for the talented young youth building a High School program that can return to a CIF final wasn’t an easy task, but it has been done.
On Friday November 16th in Pico Rivera Eisenhower entered the El Rancho High School with a passion to win and get a chance at a CIF title ring. El Rancho a much different team than the Chaffey Tigers of the week before from the begining you could tell this game wasn’t going to be a cakewalk. El Rancho had stands full of fans and plenty of fan fair and flair to go with it. El Rancho known for trick plays and onside kicks came to play and in the end Eisenhower was to the task.
Eisenhower as an entire team won this game as it was done with touchdowns and field goals this time around under the perfect foot of female player Taylor Jackson. Yes you heard that right a girl playing Varsity Football in a game that mattered scoring points that were crucial! Another stand out in this game and the person responsible for getting Eisenhower on the board early was #14 Dayveon Benton who turned a high snap over the El Rancho Quartbacks Head into a fumble recovery and touchdown!
Quaterback Ceaser Ayala orchestrated a masterful game where the ground and air attack were both viable options. He went 8-17 for 138 yards and 1 touch down.
Joel Ayala a player chosen to stand among other High School Players last week for the title of So Cal Player of the week carried 12 times for 49 yards. Jordan Goodloe put Eisenhower on his back against El Rancho with 23 carries for 237 yards and 2 touch downs! Jordan Goodloe was getting down and dirty on El Rancho’s old style real grass and dirt field and you could see that on his #11 Jersey.
Eisenhower plays the CIF final game against Highland High School from Palmdale on Saturday November 24th at Eisenhower High School. Both teams come into this game with a 13-0 record this season. This final game will be for the title in Division 10 title. Rialto it is time to come out and fill the stands of the NEW stadium. Come out and support our hometown teams return to greatness!

The city of Rialto after a heated and contentious city council tab item on September 11th 2018 is finally giving Rialto Residents what they deserve, a right to voice their concerns on the proposed project.
The City of Rialto’s Neighborhood, Housing Preservation, and Beautification Commission is hosting a workshop to consider a transitional housing facility proposed by the Time For Change Foundation (“TFCF”). The meeting is on Thursday, November 15, beginning at 6:00 p.m in the Rialto City Hall City Council Chambers, 150 S. Palm Ave. Rialto
The City and TFCF considered several sites in Rialto, but narrowed the choice to two locations:
(1) a 1 acre site at the northwest corner of Olive Avenue and Rialto Avenue owned by the Rialto Housing Authority/Rialto Successor Agency
(2) a 2.2 acre site at 475 N. Linden Avenue, just north of Foothill Boulevard owned by a private party.
The City would appreciate your input on any aspect of the project proposal. The City Council will ultimately decide the project location and characteristics after taking public input.
Both proposed sites have created concern in the minds of residents. The original site is in a downtown area zoned for cottage commercial and is not a desirable addition to the current residents in the area. The 2nd and most recent proposed site is even worse. The 2nd area is an area already dealing with large amounts of crime from other multi family dwellings and has multiple homes that are used as group homes where homeless and mentally ill people roam the streets and harass residents and in some cases have defecated on homeowners lawns. The community on Linden is a older neighborhood and nobody wants to see more transitional housing dumped there.
Even though everyone keeps calling the work being done here a feasibility study the mayor has been jumping into every picture she can and is doing her best to push this facility on Rialto.

After struggling for two years in a row Eisenhower High School has come on with a fury this season with a 12-0 record after shutting out the Chaffey Tigers 28-0 at Chaffey High Stadium Friday. Chaffey used a mostly ground game that never got them into the end zone. Eisenhower traded shots in the air and on the ground to move the ball into the end zone multiple times Friday.
Coach Alvin Brown said the players are playing so well because they are listening to what they were told. We taught them what needs to be done and they are doing it. They are reacting to on the field coaching and playing their hearts out.
Two wins are all that stands behind a section title something that has eluded Eisenhower since 93. One way they were able to get back into contention was getting out of the Citrus Belt League and into the San Andreas League.
Ronnie Lott a Eisenhower alumni pumped everyone up by posting a youthful chant to the young team and players on Twitter.
Another standout helping the Eagles make sure every point is accounted for is the new Field Goal kicker Taylor Jackson. Two years ago we watched Eisenhower struggle with field goals. Now they have a female kicker who has only missed two kicks all season!!!! Go girl power!!

Governor:
John Cox – The other choice for Governor has been in power for years and produced horrible results Gavin Newsom will make it more expensive to live in California and over regulate things even more.
Secretary of State:
Mark Meuser – Alex Padilla says he expanded the right to vote but refuses to investigate fraud. It would be easy to run a query of voter registrations against commercial addresses. I wonder why he refused to do it?
Controller:
Konstantinos Roditis – Konstantinos is a Greek man running for election and his main promise to uncertify the funding for the Bullet Train to nowhere is reason enough to vote for him.
Treasurer:
Greg Conlon – One of the major issues California has is the out of control pension system. We need a fiscally conservative with the drive to convert the system into a new contribution based plan. One where we honor the commitments to the people that worked for the state and retired but we also reduce our liability for new employees moving forward.
Attorney General:
Steven Bailey – Our current attorney general took up his entire statement bragging how he’s fought against conservative values during his tenure. Steven Bailey talked about how he wants to make California safer and how the AG needs to be above partisanship.
Insurance Commissioner:
Steve Poizner – This was a hard one. Ricardo Lara made a strong case but it all came down to partisan rhetoric in his statement. Steve is running as an independent and said the commissioner needs to be above that which I believe in. He also served before from 2007-2011 and did a great job so he has my vote.
State Board of Equalization, District 4:
Joel Anderson – This was another hard one. Mike Schaefer has a really good statement and has a pretty good record. The key for me was Joel led the charge to get the gas tax repeal on the ballot.
United States Senator:
Diane Feinstein – Kevin DeLeon would be a disaster…
United States Representative, District 31:
Sean Flynn – I follow the incumbent on Facebook and found it fascinating to see the evolution of his campaign. I watched for 2 years how much pride he had in being part of the resistance. But, when it came time to campaign, it became about common ground. I watched him vote against veterans purely along party lines. In Sean Flynn’s statement he says, “The inland empire is a great place to live and raise a family, but failed policies and blind commitment to party leaders and party politics have made life unaffordable”. I’ve seen him support the president and I’ve seen him speak out against him. Sean Flynn has my vote and I hope those of you in my district choose him too.
State Senator, District 20:
Matthew Munson – Connie Leyva is looking to make California the most expensive place to live in the nation. She spends more time fighting at the democrat convention than she does representing the people. She also does not represent everyone in her District. If you fall out of favor with her politics then her office won’t even help you. What we like about Matthew is he isn’t a career politician and he takes every situation with a how can we make this better for everyone position. Matthew isn’t going to jump into bed with special interests and will represent everyone not just one party. Another danger circling around Connie is her lack of concern about Youth Drug use. Connie Leyva has worked to derail funding that would help address youth drug use.
Judicial Offices:
VOTE NO ON ALL JUDGES!!!!
Superintendent of Public Education:
Marshall Tuck – Marshall will be way less destructive to public education than the alternative.
Member of County Board of Education:
Hardy Brown II – Hardy Brown has proven that of the others on the county board of education he is by far the least dangerous of the group. You can talk to Hardy and he seems to care. Hardy heartaches kids and teachers about the plights of slavery and the underground railroad. We do wish he would engage more on the massive issues of drug use in our teens by in large Hardy is the best choice.
Governing Board Area 2 San Bernardino Community College District:
Joseph Williams – Joseph Williams is dedicated to students well being and success. I have never seen a politician outside of my friend Shawn Oconnell that is more dedicated to doing what is right. You may not always agree with Joseph but he always comes at every situation from an angle of what is good for the greatest amount of people. His challenger is a plant put up to running by Councilman Rafeal Trujillo. Councilman Trujillo is holding some grudge against Joseph and is looking to enact some old revenge by unseating him.
Rialto Unified School Board:
Teresa Hyden – Rialto Unified is out of control! District office spends Hundreds of thousands of Dollars on bloated staff and still can’t right the ship. Board member Edgar Montes is a hot mess and cares only about his seat of power not representing the parents, students and voters. Who he is there to represent even when it comes at a cost to students and parents are the unions that fund his campaign and puff up his ego. For an example when a Elementary School special needs child was threatened with arrest for having a bad day Edgar was more worried about getting blamed than getting to the bottom of the issues. Dina Walker has become a champion of one party and one race, if you fall outside those boundaries she will do nothing for you. You know there are problems when a Head Football Coach is 11-0 in the playoffs and wasn’t offered a teaching job but we are hiring managers like they are going out of style!
Rialto City Council:
Ana Gonzalez – Ana isn’t perfect and she has made some mistakes but so have we all. What makes Ana the only clear choice this year is she wont give up and she wont back down. Also Ana isn’t a corrupt career politician. In 2016 when she wanted to run for city council she was told by the Bacas it is not your turn I told her even though I was running for city council too if she was passionate about city council then run for that. When she decided to run this time around she was told by the Bacas it is not your turn. This time she didn’t listen to failed voices that bring nothing to the table. In this election you have the incumbents and Ana Gonzalez. Ed Scott and Joe Baca Jr are so afraid of Ana that they put up a fake candidate (a latina female) to wash out the vote. Also Ed Scott used the police department to kick Ana out of National Night Out this year. Vote for only 1 vote for Ana Gonzalez!
