Coffee With The Chief August

Lt Smith stood in for Chief Deanda for this months Coffee with the Chief.

Lt Smith statred off talking about National Night Out and the event was a success but they Lt. did talk about looking at how the event can combat decreasing attendance at the event.

Sgt Brochard talked about current staffing. Sgr Brochard said that Rialto Police is fully staffed on the sworn and non sworn side of things. He also talked about how difficult it is to vet, train and hire new police staff. He also spoke to the high level of training our officers have.

Cpl Russo spoke to traffic at rialto police. Last six months they have removed many DUI suspects from Rialto roads. The current OTS grant that the police department is using is $250,000. Right now the traffic department is fully staffed and they have added more training and now have new motor units to help reduce dangerous traffic situations. Cpl Russo said that they write tickets to stop people from making bad choices that eventually lead to traffic accidents. Cpl Russo and Lt Smith took questions from the audience about one dangerous intersection and they brainstomed possible solutions to the community concerns. Andy Carrzales asked about street light timing switching from one direction to another to reduce accidents from people pushing the light. Lt Smith said that they have pulled data on the Etiwanda Corridor due to their OTS grant and the Etiwanda improvement project.

Next Citizens Academy will begin 9-27-16 thru 11-29-16 applications can be recived at the front counter of the Rialto Police Station or by emailing Lt Smith at rsmith@rialtopd.com Joe Britt said that the Rialto Police Citizens Academy is a great reasource for residents to meet the movers and shakers and learn about your police agency.

Joe Britt also said the Police Deparment should package a training program for other agencies to be better prepared for using cameras in their agency. Lt smith said that large agencies have come to learn from Rialto Police Department but by in large what works for Rialto wont work for Los Angeles or New York.

The Coffee event was a hit and well attended the dining area of the Coffee Nuttz was filled up and people overflowed into the Ice Cream section of the resturant.

Assemblymember Brown Issues Statement on the Blue Cut Fire

SAN BERNARDINO – Assemblymember Cheryl R. Brown (D-San Bernardino) issued the following statement today on the Blue Cut Fire:

“I am saddened by the destruction caused by the Blue Cut Fire that has burned 30,000 acres overnight and caused 80,000 people to evacuate their homes. As a community, we all must do what we can to help the victims of this devastating fire. My office is currently working with the American Red Cross and local public safety officials to provide assistance and resources to the victims of this terrible tragedy. I would like to commend the invaluable role of our first responders as they continue to fight the Blue Cut Fire and maintain the safety of our residents. I appreciate their dedication, tireless efforts and exceptional service.

As a result of the Governor declaring a state of emergency in San Bernardino County, I’m encouraging all constituents in the 47^th Assembly District to support the Red Cross’ recovery effort by donating clothes to your nearest Salvation Army location or by visiting the American Red Cross website and making a monetary donation towards helping those displaced by the Blue Cut Fire disaster. Fontana Mayor Celebrates Drug Filled Rave As Three People Die

This weekend Fontana was busy, very busy. The city government planned their annual Fontana Arts Festival and their Sunset on Sierra events the same weekend the city ushered in the Hard Summer Music Festival. The Hard Summer Festival is a youth based rave/concert event that seems to exist for young people to get naked, high and drunk. Also the fact that this Music Fest has moved East due to the deaths of two event attendees in 2015 in Pamona would cause you to wonder why Fontana and San Bernardino County would host the event here? It all comes back to money and alot of it.

Well at least the event promoters Live Nation would learn from last years mistakes and work to create a safer environment for concert goers right? Nope according to a LA Times Article:

“Hard Summer, this year at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, is at a turning point in its nine-year history. The two-day festival faced an uncertain future in 2015, after two fans died of drug overdoses. That led to local government demanding that the fest leave the Pomona Fairplex (the family of one of the overdose victims is suing Hard Summer and its parent firm, Live Nation).

But instead of scaling back, the festival moved a bit east, raised its ambitions (Saturday had an estimated 70,000 fans) and booked its most incendiary lineup to date.”

As you can see in the video above the mayor of Fontana is very excited to have a event such as this now in the city of Fontana. So it makes you wonder how much money a life is worth to Fontana Mayor Aquentta Warren. According to her estimations on the possible incoming tax revenue the event will bring about $11 Million each. We say this because the Fontana Herald released a story this morning that 3 people have been reported dead at this years Hard Summer event.

“Three people died while attending the HARD Summer Music Festival at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana on July 30 and 31, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

One man and two women died, but the causes of death were not yet determined pending a coroner’s report, said Captain Horace Boatwright of the Fontana Sheriff’s Station. Two of the deaths were on Saturday and one on Sunday, he said.

Boatwright said there were a total of nine medical transports at the festival, which attracted 146,000 fans during the two-day event.

He said there were 325 arrests, mostly for public intoxication.

A total of 370 San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies were at the site, and 240 other law enforcement personnel were also there, Boatwright said.”

So three dead nine transported to the hospital and 370 arrests and that is acceptable? What type of message are our leaders sending to our young people? We spoke to former event security manager and public safety officer Duane who worked inside and outside of these events and he painted a dim picture.

“These events are used by most of the event attendees to use elicit drugs combined with alcohol and public sexual behavior. Most public safety agencies just can’t handle these events and in today’s culture of anti police mentality these events are even more difficult to control. We worked with staff that were tasked with sniffing out illegal substances at the Orange Show Electric Daisy Raves and even though they stopped massive amounts of drugs, alcohol and weapons substances made it into the venue regardless. Also parents of young ladies attending these events need to see the total lack of clothing that is worn at these events. Nothing about any times of rave is healthy for any community.”

So the question is why would the county and city approve such an event? It all goes back to money.

Coffee With The Chief July 2016

On a beautiful July morning over 30 people all joined together to talk with Rialto’s Top Cop at Corkys Resturant in North Rialto. The community was joined by Police Chief Deanda, Police Captain Karol, Police Cpl Marquez and other Rialto PD staff.

Were going to give you some of the highlights but were going to send you to our Facebook page to watch the Live Video we shot of the entire meeting.

Chief Deanda went over the issues of added warehouses, the increase in traffic enforcement and the fact that every ranking member of the department is now trained and eligible to write grants to fund the work the police do. One of his examples of how grants work for Rialto citizens are the Pride Platoon, G.R.I.P. and the money we use to reduce dangerous driving through OTS grants.

Chief Deanda also spoke about the issues that come along with Marijuana use and the dangers and risks to society.

Youth Use Marches To Start Conversations

On July 12th at 5pm a group that has been organizing marches against the death of black youth and police will bring their efforts to Rialto. The group will meet at the Jack in a Box on the corner of Easton and Riverside Ave and march down Riverside Ave to Foothill and back.

The groups organizers came out to this mornings coffee with the chief at Corkys Resturant. They came to enter into a healthy conversation that brings everyone to the table. The groups main leader and spokesman Issac Moultrie said in the coffee with the chief meeting “that our police officers are not just ok they are good people here to help us”.

The group met with Police Chief Deanda, Captain Andy Karol and other officers today (july 12th) in preparation to today’s March and the ongoing conversation.

Rialto Fireworks and Hometown Carnival

Over a thousand people came out to celebrate the 4th of July holiday at Jerry Eaves park in the city of Rialto. The Hometown Carnival featured live music, food vendors, carnival games and lots of open space to play in and set up your family’s spot to watch the 40 minute professional firework show that the city of Rialto advertised.

Our staff arrived at the park about 5:30 pm and there was already a good number of people at the park and having fun. Talking to Janet Story a Rialto resident she was really excited with the event and the turnout.

The food opportunities included:

A new Gourmet Food Food truck named Delux that is Rialto based!!!!!!!!!
Kona Ice truck.
Roasted Corn, Chilli Cheese Fries and Roasted Peanuts.

The food Lines were long most of the event. There were games for the kids and some were free and some came at a cost. The cool part was that the pony rides were free but that led to long lines all night long. If there was one constant it was that the lines were constantly long.

There were also Watermellon and Hot Dog eating contests for young and old and true to years past they were MC’d by Mayor Pro Tem Baca Jr. As Joe Baca Jr asked the kids where they were from it was very interesting to see that this event had not only pulled people from Rialto but from sourounding cities as well. We asked Stacey who said she was from South Fontana why she chose to come to Rialto’s event verses going to the one in Fontana and she said “that with her family in town she couldn’t afford the cost of tickets for each person, Rialto made it possible for her whole family to join the event together”. Travis from San Bernardino said “my city gets more dangerous every day, I cant afford to celebrate the 4th of July in my hometown we needed a safe place to celebrate and now Rialto is that place”. Travis was right the Rialto event was as safe as any mass event could be. There were plenty of police present at the event from sworn officers on foot, bicycle and in patrol cars then there were Volunteer Police officers as well as uniformed explorers out making sure everyone had a safe time.

This is one of the many events our city sponsors that our volunteers are part of. We are always looking for new, qualified and enthusiastic volunteers who would like to join the Rialto Police Department

Councilman O’Connell was a topic of conversation as well because these events were part of his time on the council. He worked hard to bring the community events like this to the citizens and many staff members were happy to work on the holiday even though it meant that they would be loosing time with their friends and loved ones because “Councilman O’Connell would want us to do our best”!!!!!!!!! Many of the staff that we spoke to said that they were touched by his community mindset at the recent Grand Opening of the Bud Bender Park.

There were only two elected officials that decided to celebrate with the community they asked to serve.

Joe Baca Jr. was there once again to MC the eating contests which is always a highlight because he knows how to get the crowd going:

The other elected official that was in attendance with the great community of Rialto was the honorable councilman Ed Palmer with his family:

This event was a great event and the central location really brought the north and south ends of the city together. Even though this was a great event it wasn’t without it’s mishaps:

The City Expected a smaller crowd – it was clear from the begining that the city misjudged the popularity of this years event.
Parking – even though Jerry Eaves park has a large parking lot one of the biggest in the city there was far from enough room to accomidate the thousands of people that attended the event. No overflow parking was thought of and people took it upon themselves to make their own parking spot in dirt feilds or even as far away as Baseline or Easton.
Communication – there was zero communication on the cost of games or food at the event which led to a lot of confusion.

All in all the event was a great way for everyone young and old, rich and poor and blue collar and white collar to come together and celebrate our nation and the community we all live in.

Home Strong USA Helps Rialto Military Vet Family

On June 29th at 10:30 in the morning a group of local leaders and media joined together to see the second family that Home Strong USA has helped in the last year. This year Home Strong USA came back to Rialto to help the Ortiz family with safety and energy upgrades as well as water saving landscape and a special play area for the two young Ortiz children.

The last year Home Strong USA helped Maribel Chacon with upgrades and drought tolerant landscape. ABC Eyewitness News covered the story you can see it here:

This work isn’t done by just one organization. Teaming up with Home Strong USA on this project were Home Depot, State Farm Insurance and Rialto Councilman Ed Palmer and City Treasurer Ed Carrillo.

HomeStrong USA was formed in 1999 and is a tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization. Our original purpose and mission centered on providing relief to poor and distressed persons through the sponsorship, acquisition, development, and operation of low-income housing. Organizational goals focus on achieving the mission primarily through the delivery of an extensive pre and post-purchase education/counseling program, the acquisition or development of affordable housing projects, and the sharing of best practices and resources with high quality, high performing nonprofit counseling organizations.
