Free & Accepted Masons of California Make a Massive Donation to Rialto Literacy

Raising A Reader (RAR) is an early literacy and family engagement program for children ages 0-8 that helps families develop book-sharing routines with their child.

The Video above shows David Phillips owner of Rialto Now with the Grand Master of Free & Accepted Masons of California, John Heisner along with Victor Key of I.E. Lodge 306 at Dunn Elementary School in Rialto, discussing the Raising a Reader program and how CA Masons helped contribute $85,000 to this literacy program.

Fontana business man Lou Worthy who is also a Free Mason had this to say about the Raising a Reader program, “For those not in attendance, the mother of one of the kindergarten students (see video below) participating in this program shared an amazingly heart warming story of how her kids LOVE to read to Grandpa and there was not a dry eye in the auditorium during her heartfelt and tear producing Thank You to CA Masons for helping bring this program to her school.

Schools up and down the state of CA participate in this program. This program brings literacy to young students in the early stages of their Elementary School Education. Providing books and special Raising a Reader red book bags students are given another example of the importance of reading in their lives. As of now the program is only in a few schools but Superintendent Dr. Avila pledged to make that program a district wide initiative.

Rialto is Set to Put on the Ritz once again this weekend.

Rialto Unified School District response to the lack of funding for Art Programs is set to once again take the stage. The 13th Annual Puttin’ on the Ritz Fine Arts Gala Fundraiser is this Saturday at Carter High School and once again the ever popular and energetic Jimbo from KCAL 96.7 FM Radio will be the night’s EMCEE.

The Puttin’ on the Ritz Fine Arts Gala Fundraiser has raised over $450,000 dollars for Rialto Arts Programs and has even paid for schools to be exposed to art like field trips to see popular plays. This is made possible by ticket sales but it is also made possible by the highly coveted Silent Auction for the awesome gift baskets that are donated to help raise funds.

Sad to say last year was my first time at the Puttin’ on the Ritz Fine Arts Gala Fundraiser and I was blown away by the talent Rialto students posses. If you miss it this year please follow us as we will be doing a lot of posting and streaming of this wonderful content.

Soon Solar Will Meet Rialto Unified School Districts Power Needs

Sun Edison, Inc. the world’s largest renewable energy development company, announced that it has signed a 20 year power purchase agreement with the Rialto Unified School District in California for 8.4 megawatts (MW) DC of solar power. As part of the agreement, Sun Edison will install solar canopies above the parking lots of all 28 schools in the district.

The school district expects the solar systems to generate a 20 percent savings on their electricity bill, which equates to $1 million saved in the first year alone. Over the course of the 20-year contract, the school district expects to generate an estimated $30 million dollars savings on energy costs.

“The Rialto Unified School District is taking a financially savvy approach to control their energy costs,” said Sam Youneszadeh, Sun Edison managing director of Western U.S. commercial and industrial. “The Sun Edison solar canopies will generate clean, affordable energy while providing welcome shade for cars in the parking lot. Sun Edison solar solutions are quick to deploy and bring our customers real, immediate energy savings for years to come.”

“These SunEdison solar systems have the potential to generate millions of dollars in savings for our school district over the next 20 years,” said Dr. Cuauhtémoc Avila, Rialto Unified School District superintendent. “These savings can be used to fund other critical needs, and the solar systems can be incorporated into the curriculum as real life examples of innovative science at work. SunEdison has a great track record of solar installations for schools throughout California and we’re delighted to be working with them on this project.”

Another benefit will be through a ciriculum that will be built around this solar project. The funds and savings will be used in part to give students skills and training to enter the field of Solar Energy. Mohammad Islam said that this project has been a long time in the works and that it is nice to see the fruits of their labor becoming a reality.

Rialto’s solar systems are expected to generate enough electricity each year to power more than 1,300 homes. By choosing solar, the school district is eliminating the emission of an estimated 21 million pounds of carbon dioxide annually, the equivalent of taking more than 2,000 cars off the road.

The first school to kick off this project is Carter High School and construction began during the winter break. If the company can work without having to use phases the canopy mounted solar systems are expected to be completed in the second half of 2017.

Operation and maintenance of these solar power plants will be performed by SunEdison Services, which provides global 24/7 asset management, monitoring and reporting services.

Even the county school board sent representatives out to congratulate Rialto Unified School District in this effort.

Eisenhower High Football Splits Pre Season Games

ike logo

The Eisenhower High School Varsity Football team kicked off the upcoming season with two pre-season games. Playing without a home stadium this year will be challenging but they seem equal to the task and there are some Rialto residents that are working to make each game feel like a home game and travel where the team goes.

As you can see Eisenhower split the pre-season with a commanding win over Tahquitz. Coach Brown was happy with what he saw from his team. Even though Eisenhower lost to Roosevelt the team was out muscled by the other team but fought and learned a lot about what the regular season had in store for them.

Eisenhower will kick off the regular season away on September 16th at Rialto High School at 7pm
