Join Joel Greene as he helps to kick off the Rialto Relay for Life event. This year the Rialto event is looking to raise $30 Thousand to combat cancer. If you would like to help them hit that mark you can donate any amount by clicking here.

Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Relay is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5,200 communities and 27 countries. Volunteers give of their time and effort because they believe it’s time to take action against cancer.

Join us at these events to bring communities together to remember loved ones lost, honor survivors of all cancers, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society make a global impact on cancer.

Time: 9:00am

We’ll kick off the event by celebrating everyone who’s been affected by cancer. Whether someone’s been diagnosed for 10 days or been cancer-free for 10 years, they gather together for the crowd to cheer them on.

Survivors & Caregiver Lap

Time: 9:30am

Survivors define courage and inspire those facing a cancer diagnosis. Their strength is honored with each step they take around the first lap. If you know anyone who’s overcome cancer, invite them to join.

Caring for others is such a selfless act, which is why we honor caregivers with a lap. They often walk with the person they’ve supported.

Fight Back Ceremony

Time: 10:00am

Have you ever wanted to see a cement truck up close? Climb inside a cherry picker? Explorer a firetruck? Join us for a second annual Touch-A-Truck event.

Kids Corner sponsored by Target with games, crafts and activities for kids of all ages.

Be your own builder. Join us for a kids workshop sponsored by the Home Depot where kids can use tools to build their own creations.

Time: 4:00 pm

We will talk about what we can do beyond the event to fight back against this horrible disease.

Time: 9:00 pm

Each Luminaria bag represents a loved one lost to cancer, brings support to those affected by it, and honors survivors. This powerful moment gives people the opportunity to grieve but also offers hope and comfort.

Closing Ceremony

Time: 10:30 pm

We celebrate all that we’ve accomplished together and remember those we’ve lost. Together, we commit to take action and help end the pain and suffering of cancer.

Assemblymember Cheryl R. Brown (D-San Bernardino) voices small business concerns during JEDE Committee Hearing.

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Cheryl R. Brown (D-San Bernardino) joined committee members for a hearing of the Jobs and Economic Development & the Economy (JEDE) Committee on Tuesday, February 5. JEDE is the policy committee in the State Assembly responsible for reviewing policies and legislation related to small business development, international trade and other economic development related issues.

The JEDE Committee includes Assemblymember Jose Medina, chair, Assemblymember Travis Allen, vice-chair, and Assemblymembers Tom Daly, Paul Fong, Steve Fox, Ben Hueso, Eric Linder, Melissa A. Melendrez, and V. Manuel Pérez. Assemblymember Ken Cooley also joined the members of the JEDE Committee for the hearing.

JEDE is currently tackling the state’s economy and unemployment figures by seeking job creation opportunities. During the hearing, Assemblymember Brown spoke about the importance of supporting small businesses and jobs in the Inland Empire and she indicated there are impediments to businesses.

“I’m glad I had the opportunity to voice concerns on behalf of the small business community in the 47th District during the hearing. Supporting small business is so important to me because small businesses provide a majority of jobs in our district. Small businesses are hurting right now and many of them are closing their doors. We need to help our small businesses by updating and streamlining some of the state’s regulatory processes,” said Assemblymember Brown.

Assemblymember Brown said she plans to support the JEDE Committee as they look for ways to improve our state’s economy.

ASSEMBLYMEMBER-ELECT CHERYL R. BROWN SAYS SMALL BUSINESS GROWTH AND JOB CREATION ARE NECESSARY IN THE 47THAD

In recognition of Small Business Saturday on November 24, Assemblymember-Elect Cheryl R. Brown (D-47) patronized small businesses located in the 47thAssembly District to encourage everyone to shop local and shop small.

“I’ve owned a small business for almost 40 years and I understand the challenges and sacrifices that business owners encounter daily. I deeply admire and respect the contributions that our small businesses make to the communities in our district,” said Brown.

Small Business Saturday has attracted millions of consumers nationwide since its formation in 2010. Small Business Saturday occurs annually between Black Friday and Cyber Monday and encourages the nation to celebrate their local businesses by “shopping small.”

“Reportedly, two-thirds of jobs in the 47th District are provided by small businesses,” said Brown. “And nationally for the last two decades small businesses have created two of every three jobs in the United States.”

Encouraging small business growth and job creation are among Brown’s top legislative priorities for 2013.

“Promoting small business growth and job creation is important to me because our district suffers from some of the highest unemployment rates in the state,” said Brown.“In many of our sectors, the unemployment rate has reached double digits. We have to look at how we can create more jobs and strengthen our local economy.”

“Government policies can pave the way for small businesses to thrive,” said Brown.

Assemblymember-Elect Brown represents the 47th Assembly District, which includes San Bernardino, Rialto, Colton, Bloomington, Fontana, and Grand Terrace.
