Tonight is the City of Rialto’s Council Meeting. Below I have highlighted some of the items that will be on the Agenda Tonight.

We have 3 proclomations ranging from Public Safety to Earth Day.

This is on the Consent Calendar under Miscellaneous:

D.3 is spending another $5 Thousand to use full time referees verses part time referees becuase of a shortage of the part time staff. With unemployment still at all time highs why are we finding it hard to pay part time refs? Are we looking at all or are we simply taking the easy way out? www.facebook.com/InlandEmpireJobSeekers has about 10 job fairs listed in the Inland Empire I’m sure Rialto can find some part time refs there.

amount from $14,900.00 to $20,400.00 for KCALS Officials.

Looks like we will see some more work on how Elected Officals are paid for travel that always sounds good.

Tab 2 is a Grant that will allow us better staffing within our Fire Department. I am extremly happy with the Public Safety effort in Rialto to protect us while finding other sources of paying for that safety.

I think its vital that we show up to every single council meeting we possibly can. I have been MIA for the last 2 months but I try to watch them at home or on the internet. We must watch what is said and done becuase in the end we are the ones paying for the councils desicions.

One thing that I saw last meeting (via the Web) was how grossly we under estimated the costs of the In & Out Project. That project is now going to cost the city another $$600K+ because they under estimated the cost of the freeway sign and forgot to add in the cost of the Rod Iron Fence and Under Water Catch Basin for the project.

I want an In & Out but not at the cost of the taxpayers. I wish the city would have went to the leaders at the City of Highland Ca and learned how to build a In & Out without draining tax dollars.

Rialto Job Fair a Success

On March 27^th 2013 Rialto held its first job fair of 2013 after holding one late in 2012 both were at the Cathedral of Praise Church on the Corner of Riverside Ave & Valley Blvd. The one in 2012 was ok but it was filled with schools looking for students, agencies like American Water with fake job openings (locally) and temp agencies. These are all good (except for the fake job openings) when people are not severely desperate for work. Schools mean more debt and temp agencies are not full time regular work.

A total of 517 job seekers and people were standing in line 10 minutes until 8 a.m. (started at 10 a.m.) and people were still coming after it was over at 1 p.m. There is a need in our community & together we can make a difference. The Cathedral of Praise volunteers; City of Rialto volunteers (including the HR Manager); San Bernardino Valley College Occupational Advancement Department volunteers; and the Director for the Applied Technologies Training, Economic Development and Corporate Training Division (San Bernardino Community College District) also one volunteer from San Bernardino Valley College Workability department .

This most recent job fair that was partnered by City of Rialto Human Resources and San Bernardino Valley College was one of the best job fairs I have been to in 3 years. It was full of diverse, interesting and quality employers looking for employees. These were not just jobs to get you through the basic bills, these were jobs you could work and retire from.

We were at the job fair and we spoke to employers. Here are a few of the many choices you had to choose from:

Forest Home http://www.foresthome.org/aboutfh/employment/ A local Mountain Camp founded by Henrietta Mears. They offer all types of camp options and an extensive list of job openings both professional and entry level.
Manheim http://www.manheim.com/careers/?WT.svl=m_footer_careers A local Auto Auction company offering a wide range of opportunities in the automotive field from back and front office work to hands on interaction with the Vehicles themselves Manheim presented a company willing to hire those quality people looking for a career.
Child Care Careers www.childcarecareers.net This is a temp agency for the Child Care industry. They handle job openings at the State (school districts), Federal (head start) and private Early Childhood Education centers. Kirsten from Child Care Careers told me they had a massive order for staff incoming and were looking at doing a mass hire.

You also had Law Enforcement agencies like San Bernardino County Sheriff, Riverside County Sheriff, Fontana Police, Rialto Police & San Bernardino County Probation. Other public safety or security companies were Rialto Fire Department, Securitas, First Defense & Allied Barton. There were temp staffing agencies a couple schools and Avon & Mary Kay but overall it was well planned, few empty spaces and very well attended.

Working in Community Services on thing that our safety trainer always tells us is in the event of a disaster Police, Fire and Military resources are first sent to Schools an Hospitals. He reminds us that we must be prepared to survive for at least three days. So lets think about this that means if somone is hurt badly in my home or neighborhood I may be responsible for stabalizing that person? Yep, do you know how? If not these classes will help you better prepare for that major emergency.

After too many close calls with our teens and young adults finding themselves being hospitalized. Rialto Unified Staff, Flores Park Neighborhood Watch, Councilman Shawn O’Connell, Community members and Rialto Police Department partnered together to eliminate the ease of access to Synthetic drugs known under the names “SPICE” or “BATH SALTS” on shelves of local liquor stores and smoke shops.

These drugs are marketed in packaging using cartoon characters and bright colors.

They also reach out by claiming to be manmade Marijuana, but this is far from the truth the chemicals used to create the drug are unregulated and much worse than the very harmful and dangerous Marijuana.

People using this drug for the first time find themselves with symptoms like those in a heart attack patient and find themselves going into cardiac arrest.

The need for blood is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in our community. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds and most of us will need blood in our lifetime. Donors must be at least 18 years of agewith valid ID.

RIALTO – The lights and siren on Rialto police Cpl. Cameron Nelson’s patrol car left 5-year-old Nicholas Mingl doubting it had anything to do with Christmas.

“This ain’t a Santa sleigh,” the Rialto boy said.

But thanks to Rialto police officers who took needy children on a Christmas shopping spree Wednesday, the boy’s outlook on the police and the holidays grew brighter.

Law enforcement and fire agencies around the Inland Empire have been holding gift-giveaways for disadvantaged families the last few weeks. Many police departments participated in Shop With a Cop-style events, using donations to take children to stores for presents.

“These kids would not have a Christmas if it wasn’t for this,” said Karen Huerta, Nicholas’ grandmother.

Rialto police took 14 children to Walmart in Rialto, buying each child $50 in presents and another $40 for their parents or guardians. Families filled out applications and were selected by officers based on need.

“Hopefully it gives them a better outlook on police officers – that we’re not just enforcers,” Nelson said.

The Kiwanis Club, Rialto’s Police Officer Benefit Association and other donors pitched in for the gift money.

Rialto Officer Cheri Schaffer walked the aisles with 6-year-old Julina Castro, who picked a few dolls and some clothes off the shelves. She also used some of her $50 to buy her mother a present.

“It makes you feel good to come out with the kids and see their faces light up,” Schaffer said.

San Bernardino police used a different method to select children for their Shop With a Cop event. Police detectives picked children who were victims in physical abuse cases.

Detectives, along with officers in uniform, accompanied nine children ranging from 5 to about 12-years-old, for a shopping spree. The department received $1,500 in donations from the Walmart Foundation.

“It lets them know that your case is done, but we didn’t forget you,” said police Lt. Paul Williams.

In Redlands, police took 27 children to Target, where they bought $1,800 in presents through police and community donations.

Other agencies may not call their events “Shop With a Cop,” but it’s the same concept.

Fontana police, who call their shopping spree “Heroes and Helpers” took 50 children shopping at Target on Dec. 15. They were selected by school district officials who recognized the children had a need for holiday help.

But it wasn’t just police officers who took children on shopping sprees.

Colton firefighters, along with the Colton Unified School District and Walmart donated money so 50 needy children could each receive $100 Christmas presents.
